Hospital consultation period extended

Health chiefs have extended the consultation over the proposed controversial hospital shake-up '“ giving West Sussex residents two extra weeks to have their say.

The West Sussex Primary Care Trust has announced that it is extending the deadline for responses to Fit For The Future from October 30 to November 14 in a bid to give people more time to get information and respond.

The PCT, working in partnership with the Brighton and Hove PCT, took this decision in recognition of the very high level of public interest in the proposals, including the number of requests for additional consultation meetings.

The decision also follows calls for the whole process to be suspended as a result of the 'inadequate' consulation process.

Chief executive of West Sussex PCT, John Wilderspin, said: "It is clear that there is a very high level of interest in the consultation, and we want to ensure that local people have every opportunity to contribute to the process.

"This decision demonstrates that we have been listening to the views of local people and will continue to do so throughout the extended consultation process to ensure everyone has a chance to hear about our proposals and have their say."
