Hospital closures threat-999 cxrews say: Lives would be at risk

Lives will be lost in West Sussex if ambulances have to make longer journeys to hospital, on some of the most congested roads in the country, paramedics and a senior union officer say.

Simon Bolton, South East Regional Officer for UNISON, which represents thousands of hospitals across the country , was speaking out against comments made by Dr Jeremy Mayhew, nedical director at Sussex Ambulance Service.

Dr Nayhew had suggested that longer journey times to other hospitals would not threaten lives, but his view has only been met with derision not only by union officials but also by p0aramedics in the ambulance service.

Speaking to the WSG, Mr Bolton said: " I think he is totally misleading the public. It is not what my members are telling me."
