Hope for Worthing gang show

FEARS that the final curtain could be called on the Worthing Gang Show because of a lack of interest have been dispelled.

Just last month, the Herald reported how it could have been curtains for the show '“ which involves Brownies, Cubs, Scouts and Guides from all over the area '“ because of a lack of interest from children.

The event's producer, Mark Shepherd, revealed the show had already been put back a year to 2004.

But, according to Mr Shepherd this week, the number of children who turned up at a recent workshop for the show was promising and its future was now looking up.

Mr Shepherd, an assistant Scout leader with 8th Worthing Sea Scouts, said: "We have just held a workshop for the Gang Show and we had about 30 children there, which is about the number we needed.

I was very pleased with the response."

During the workshop, children were shown a video of clips of previous shows, learned two songs and did some dance movements. It is aimed at showing children what the show can do for them.

The next workshop will be held this Sunday at 8th Worthing headquarters, which is in the grounds of Thomas A'Becket Middle School in Glebeside Avenue, at 2.30pm. Auditions for the Gang Show will be held there all day on June 8.
