This was just one of the successful fund-raising events on Friday that boosted the final total collected at the college to 1,500.

Another money spinner was busking by sixth formers Matt Shepherd, Nick Brett and friends. "We weren t sure whether people were paying them to stop or carry on," said Mr Roger Francis, economics and business teacher and head of the sixth form, who co-ordinated the day s activities.

There was also a Students Revenge Staff Cross Country event, in which 20 teachers ran two and a half miles in what should have been a fun run but turned into a hotly-contested event.

The winners were history teacher Roger Billingham and Year 9 head Steve Simmons.
