Green group's gift of trees

A GOOD crowd braved the cold to attend a Bexhill Environmental Group tree planting ceremony on Friday on the lawn in front of Bexhill police station.

Councillor Paul Lendon, Cllr Martyn Forster, and other supporters and members of Bexhill Environmental Group (BEG), together with King Offa Primary School’s

Jenni Miller and Jane Jenner,

and Sgt Jane Batcheler from

Bexhill Police, were among those attending.

They watched Bexhill MP Greg Barker and a group of King Offa schoolchildren put the finishing touches to the planting of three cherry plum trees.

Mr Barker said: “This is an excellent initiative by Bexhill Environmental Group.

“It’s good to see trees planted that provide habitat and food for wildlife but also fruit that people can enjoy, and I look forward to seeing more community projects such as this in the future.”

Michael Bernard, chairman of BEG, said: “We hope that these three trees will be the first of many planted in Bexhill by our group, and it’s great to get this support and encouragement.”
