Grand evening for shelter boxes

ROTARIANS secured £1,000 for the emergency relief charity, ShelterBox, thanks to a fund-raising dinner at the Shiplu Indian Restaurant in London Road.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Senlac, through Rotarian Stuart Earl, and supported by the Rotary Club of Battle, the event also attracted backing from many non-members and the cash raised is enough to complete two shelter boxes.

The charity was launched 10 years ago by Helston-Lizard Rotarian Tom Henderson, a former Royal Navy search and rescue diver from Cornwall.

It has since become a major Rotary International global project.

For the second time this year, Mr Azad, proprietor of the Shiplu Restaurant, generously backed the Rotarians’ efforts for ShelterBox.

A spokesman said: “We are grateful and appreciative of his support”.
