Get your cat microchipped

National Pet Adoption Week, or PAW for short, starts on Saturday and Bluebell Cat Rehoming Centre is holding an open day to celebrate.

The event will take place on Sunday (June 8) at the centre in Chowns Hill between 11.30am and 3.30pm.

There will be lots of stalls including a tombola, a cake stand and all sorts of gift stalls. Refreshments will also be on sale.

As well as Pet Adoption Week, June is also National Microchipping Month. Staff at the centre believe the relatively simple procedure of putting an identity chip - which is the size of a grain of sand - under the cat's skin is a great way of giving peace of mind to cat owners.

This is because it makes it far easier to reunite the animal with its loved ones should it get lost.

A spokesman for the centre said: "Anyone who has dealt with their own pet going missing, I'm sure will agree, it's the not knowing that is hardest to come to terms with.

"At the Centre there are always lots of cats that have clearly been someone's loving pet and been separated '“ if only they had been microchipped, we could have re-united them."

For the whole of June cat owners can get their pets microchipped for a reduced price of 12.50.
