Fundraisers boost for hospital funds

Hospital fundraisers in Bognor Regis have received an end-of-year cash boost.

Loyal supporter Brian Holly handed over his latest donation of 800 to the Friends of Bognor's War Memorial Hospital.

The cash had been raised in 2007 during the breaks which his Holly Holidays company arranges for its 600 customers. Monthly dances are also held at Middleton's Jubilee Hall.

Mr Holly said: 'We all need to use a hospital at some time or other in our lives.

'I used to play football for Bognor in the 1960s and it's good to give something back to society for all the good times I've had.'

The Felpham resident has raised some 10,000 during the past 15 years. A lot of this has gone to the Friends. St Wilfrid's Hospice has also benefited.

He handed over his latest cheque to Friends chairman Ted Chandler at a celebration get-together attended by many of his customers.

Mr Chandler said the Friends had spent well over 100,000 in the past year.

Among the work paid for was the installation of bathrooms in the hospital's two wards. New curtains were next on the list for action.

Next year would see the Friends pay 160,000-plus towards the extension of the existed dialysis unit which the group originally funded.

'This is all thanks to people like Brian we are able to do this.

'If people give us the money, we will spend it on the hospital,' he said.

'Every ward gives us a wish list each month.

'We never turn them down, though they may have to wait a while for what they want.'
