Full house for Lions

RYE and District Lions “Nearly Burns” Brass Band Concert, by Sussex Brass, at Beckley Village Centre on Friday January 27 is a complete sell-out for the 6th year running.

The Lions are delighted with the fantastic response from the public and all proceeds will be donated, as in previous years, to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Conrad Freezer, from Rye Lions said: “All Lions Clubs donate all the money raised by their fund-raising events to charity, often local appeals, and no deductions are made for administration, compared to many other large charities.

“In the last two months Rye Lions have agreed to donate £500 to the Oliver Curd Trust, £500 to the Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance Trust; £250 to the Rye Wurlitzer Academy - which funds lessons for children on the Rye College Wurlitzer; £250 to Care for the Carers – an East Sussex charity; £250 to Westfield Pre-school Playgroup for small toilets for the little ones; £250 to Rye and District Age Concern, £250 to St. Michael’s Hospice; £250 to the Palliative Care Unit at the Conquest and £250 to the Alzheimer’s Society. They also recently donated £500 towards a new voice synthesiser for a lady with cerebral palsy.

“Last year Rye Lions raised £12,482 by their various fund-raising activities and this would not be possible without the support that people locally give to the Lions and we thank those who willingly support us.

“Recently our area of responsibility has been extended to include villages out as far to and including Hawkhurst, Staplecross and Bodiam.

“Any adult within the area around Rye would be welcome to join Rye and District Lions, who not only have fun whilst raising money for those less fortunate, but also enjoy a social event each month. Anyone interested is invited to ring 01797 252921, or to find out more about them, to visit the website at:- www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/ryedistrict/.”
