Ford firm on track for record open day

ALMOST 5,000 enthusiasts, from across the UK, were on board in Ford at the weekend.

Gaugemaster, one of the largest model railway businesses in the country, held two open days at its Ford Road base, attracting people from Surrey, Salisbury and even Scotland.

Stuart Jordan, of the company's sales and marketing team, said: "It was very busy, it was bustling! Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

"Since the weekend, we have had lots of e-mails from people, saying how much they enjoyed it, so I think it was a success."

Record number

Fourteen different model railway layouts were on display in marquees across the site, showing beginners and veterans alike what could be achieved, with equipment from all over the world, including Europe, the United States and Japan.

This, the seventh biennial open weekend, attracted a record number of visitors.

"I think this is the most successful one we have ever had, in terms of how many people came along," said Stuart.
