Fontwell to be sold

Fontwell Park racecourse is to be sold, it was reported this week.

The National Hunt figure-of-eight course is included as part of a 69.5m deal for Northern Racing by property tycoons David and Simon Reuben.

Northern has invested substantially in Fontwell in the past few years, including 3m in a new grandstand, to lead to generally increased attendances and turn the site into a venue widely used outside of race meetings.

A hotel and a pub have also been built on adjoining land.

The takeover of Northern and its nine racecourses by the Reubens, who already owned racecourse company Arena Leisure, could lead to further investment.
