Flytipping leaves man ‘disgusted’

A man has been left disgusted after finding a pile of rubbish dumped in the car park of his fishing club in Wisborough Green.

Peter Stockwood, 65, from Billingshurst, found the rubbish on Sunday morning (August 31) after heading down to the club, in Fittleworth Road, for a competition.

He said: “I got down there at about 7.30 and found the rubbish.

“Its is just disgraceful what they have done.

“We have not had to lock the car park in the last 30 years. We only have 200 or 300 members so we have never had any need to lock it.

“There have been little bits dumped before but never on a scale like this.

“I am disgusted by it.”

In the pile Peter found tyres, a mattress and even some personal documents including school exercise books and children’s medical forms identifying pupils from a school in the London area.

Peter said he was unhappy the council was not doing anything about the rubbish.

“I have spoken to the council and they say there is nothing they can do about it,” he said.

“We will have to pay to get rid of it or I will have to get rid of it myself.

“It is unbelievable and it is upsetting that the council won’t do anything about it.”

In a statement Chichester District Council said: “The fly tip was on private land and therefore the responsibility of the landowner to clear rather than the local authority.

“However, the council did suggest that it could arrange to clear the material for a small charge.”
