Firefighters swiftly responded when the alarm was raised at Lewes Prison this morning (Wednesday, May 9).

Five fire engines were sent to the scene. However, the fire was out when they arrived and no further action was required.

It is understood the incident may be connected to a dispute over the ban on smoking in prisons.
