Fight to save Littlehampton Town Show to begin

A RALLYING cry is being issued to residents in Littlehampton this week by councillors determined to preserve the area’s annual town show,

Ham Ward council Mike Northeast, along with other Labour town councillors, will be launching the Don’t split the Town Show, campaign, on Saturday (July 21).

Mike, is urging people from the area to support the bid to stop the show, which normally takes place as one event, in Rosemead Park, from being split.

He said: “The reason we are having to do this is because the ruling Conservatives on the town council seem hell bent on destroying an event which is dear to the hearts of the thousands of local residents whose attendance is increasing year on year and it would be a social tragedy to lose it.”

Helping to collect signatures on Saturday will be local campaigner George O’Neill who was a town councillor and supporter of the show right from when it first started back, more than a decade ago.

“The town show and later the addition of the family fun day is the perfect vehicle bringing many sections of the town’s community together in one place celebrating all the good things Littlehampton has to offer.

“Splitting it will do away with this very important social networking and community spirit it creates at present and it will certainly threaten its future,” said George.

Campaigners will be meeting outside the clock tower, in High Street, from 10.30am.
