SEAFORD and Newhaven senior school headteachers have welcomed GCSE exam results highlighted in new Government school performance league tables.

At Seaford Head Community College 93 per cent of GCSE students achieved A* to G grades. Fifty per cent scored A* to C. Five per cent had no passes.

Headteacher Robin Precey said: 'GCSE students performed well in relation to their ability. The average points score per student was particularly encouraging.

He added: 'Examination results are but one measure of achievement and the college also values the contribution students make in music, sport, drama and other aspects of our community life.

Performance

At Newlands Manor 85 per cent achieved GCSE A* to G. 64 per cent A* to C. Three per cent had no passes.

At Tideway Community School, Newhaven, 88 per cent of GCSE students achieved A* to G grades. Forty-four per cent scored A* to C. Six per cent had no passes.

Headteacher Adrian Money said: 'We are very pleased with exam performance at GCSE this year, our best ever set of results. We set ourselves very challenging targets and this year we exceeded them by quite a margin.

'However, the true measure of a school s success is not the number of grades obtained at a higher level, it is the success experienced by each individual student that comes about from teaching and learning.
