At this year’s fete, Northiam Blue Cross will be holding their first Young Artists Competition, and are looking for animal paintings and drawings from budding young artists.

The competition will be judged on the day by nationally acclaimed animal portraitist, Kathryn Nicholls, who will also be displaying some of her own acclaimed work at the event.

Age categories for the art competition are: under 7s; 8-12 years; and 13-16 years.

Maria Steel, Blue Cross Rehoming Centre Manager in Northiam, said: “Our summer fete is an event not to be missed this year. There’s so much going on from art to live music – it’s going to be a fantastic day.

“We really look forward to seeing lots of our supporters there and lots of doggy visitors too.

“All the money we raise will help us to carry on caring for the homeless cats and dogs here at the centre.”

As well as a live band, games, stalls and tasty treats from the barbecue, there will be lots of canine fun too.

Visiting dogs can try their paw at the agility course or enter the perennially popular Fun Dog Show, which will be running throughout the day. Registration for the show starts at 9.30am and the first class begins at 10.30am.

Maria said: “ Perhaps your pet could be top dog in categories that include ‘most handsome dog’, ‘waggiest tail’ and ‘best Blue Cross rehomed dog’.”
