Elvis enters the Legion

'THE King' made a visit to the Royal British Legion Club in Little Common on Friday.

The venue held an Elvis evening to raise money for the charity for ex-servicemen.

A professional impersonator entertained the crowds with renditions of all the classic hits.

Guests sat down to enjoy a meal before the performance.

Compere Andrew Heffer said: "It was a superb evening. I did some stand up at the start. We had a guy called Wayne who was a backing singer for Elvis who did a slot.

"We had two raffles, including a special Elvis raffle, then I got up and did a bit of Elvis before the main man entered the building.

"When he did the 'teddy bear' song he was chucking bears into the audience and everyone was bopping and boogying. It was great."

A Royal British Legion Club lifetime membership award was presented on the evening to Iris Stump who had served as chairman of the women's section and of the club.

Iris, a keen gardener, was also given a plant for her garden.
