Dozens of firefighters tackle blaze in Southfields Road, Littlehampton

Firefighters are at the scene of a blaze in Southfields Road, Littlehampton.

Crews from Littlehampton, Worthing and Arundel were called to the fire in a portable building in Southfields Road at 2.20pm today (November 16).

Worthing fire station commander Roy Barraclough said crews were still battling the blaze which was ‘near the scout hut’, but it had not spread to any other buildings.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service added: “We were called at 2.19pm to reports of a portable cabin well alight.

“Three crews from Littlehampton, Arundel and Worthing are in attendance.

“The building is five metres by two metres and crews are using breathing apparatus, one jet and two hose reels.

“They have the fire under control and it should be extinguished shortly.

“There are no reports of any injuries and we believe all persons are accounted for.

“But there are still crews at the scene and it is an ongoing operation.”
