Depressed man on roof in Lewes High Street

POLICE are desperately trying to persuade a depressed man not to jump from the top of the doctors' surgery in Lewes High Street.

Trained negotiaters are currently (Friday morning) talking to the man, aged 24.

The unemployed man, from Priory Road, is thought to have been on the top of a three-storey building (the next one down from the Baxter's building) for most of the night.

The High Street has been closed off from the War Memorial to Friars Walk and traffic is being diverted.

Traffic tailbacks are stretching back to Ringmer and the town is gridlocked.
