Dave's long walk in wife's memory

A lone walker has raised more than £9,000 for the Macmillan Service at Midhurst to honour the memory of his wife, who died from cancer last year.

Despite suffering from ankylosing spondylitis, a painful inflammatory disease of the spine, Dave Titheridge walked 290 miles on the Macmillan Way, a designated route from the Eastern Counties to the West Country, to raise money for Macmillan at Midhurst.

The service cared for his wife, Val, and supported the family during her illness.

Mr Titheridge (47), from Godalming, began his trek in Boston, Lincolnshire, and followed a gruelling 12-hour per day schedule, starting at 6am.

He completed the 290 miles in a record time of two weeks, and also set another record for the largest single-handed donation from a Macmillan Way sponsored walk.
