East Grinstead armed robbery: Man is charged by police

Police investigating a report of an armed robbery in East Grinstead have charged a man.

On Sunday (April 26), around 12.30am, the victim was walking along Lewes Road when two suspects on a motorbike allegedly threatened him with a weapon and demanded that he hand over his belongings, Sussex Police said.

A spokesman added: “Jack Chambers, 18, of East Grinstead, has been charged with robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

“He was also charged with receiving stolen goods, criminal damage and possession of Class A and B drugs in connection with separate incidents.”

Chambers has been remanded in custody and will appear in court at a date to be determined, police said.

The spokesman added: “Anyone with information regarding this incident can report online or call 101, quoting Operation Backbone.”
