Benefits cheat sentenced

A benefits cheat who falsely claimed over £5,000 has been successfully prosecuted.

Peter Caw, of Sackville Road, claimed job seekers allowance, housing and Council Tax benefit despite beginning work in March 2009.

Caw, 39, appeared before Hastings magistrates last Friday(November 12) and pleaded guilty to three charges of failing to promptly report a change of circumstances.

He was given credit for a timely guilty plea and sentenced to a conditional discharge for three years and ordered to pay £150 costs, concurrent to all three offences.

The investigation was conducted jointly between Rother District Council and the Department for Work and Pensions.
