County throws £2m at pothole problem

STAFF have been held at gunpoint during an armed robbery in Southwick – the second in less than a week.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the robbery at Alldays, in Windmill Parade, Southwick, on Saturday.

They are linking the incident to another armed robbery at Mulberry Wines, in The Gardens, Southwick, on Monday, January 11.

Two men went into Alldays at 5.50pm on Saturday.

One of them pulled out a gun and threatened a member of staff, demanding money from the till while the other stood by the door.

After a carrier bag was filled with cash, the pair fled west along Windmill Drive.

Police believe they got into a car parked in Overhill.

The car is described as a large, silver, four-door saloon, possibly a Vauxhall or Volkswagen Passat.

A third person is thought to have been driving.

The first man is described as white, aged between 20 and 30, about 5ft 7in tall and of stocky build, with a northern accent.

The second was also white, slightly shorter and of medium build. Detective Sergeant Colin O’Hare, of Worthing CID, said: “This robbery is being linked to another incident which happened on January 11 at Mulberry Wines, where a man walked in, produced a handgun and demanded cash.

“Nobody was injured in either offence, but members of staff were, understandably, left very shaken by what happened and, in both offences, a small amount of money was stolen.

“We are anxious to hear from anyone who has information about either crime to contact us as soon as possible. It may be that you witnessed what happened or even saw the suspects before or after the crimes had taken place.

“It doesn’t matter how small or insignificant the information might appear to be. Just pick up the phone as we want to catch those responsible.”
