Coffee Morning raises funds for Convent

A COFFEE & scone morning was held at Bexhill's, St Mary Magdalene's church on Saturday.

The popular annual social morning is held to raise funds for Poor Clares Convent, which is on the edge of Exmoor National Park in Lynton, North Devon.

Organiser of the event, Amelia Young, has a daughter who is of a member of the convent and an ex- parishioner of St Mary Magdalene's church.

The convent's community consists of ten sisters who live a life of 'Franciscan Poverty and prayer'.

Amelia and her helpers have been organising and running the coffee morning, which is always well supported by local residents and parishioners, for twenty three years.

Along with coffee and delicious home-made scones there was the opportunity to try ones luck on the 'big raffle', or purchase home-made cakes and preserves, which included tangy apple & ginger, marmalade & Cointreau and plumb & port.
