Children's centres set to open in £11m scheme

TWENTY-TWO new children's centres are set to open this year throughout West Sussex as part of an £11m expansion by the county council.

Each centre will serve around 800 children under five and will offer a range of services, information and advice for families with young children.

Mark Dunn, county council cabinet member for children and young people's services, said: "We know the areas where we want to locate many of the centres and we can say that every single district and borough in the county will benefit."

A county council spokeswoman said: "The aim is to have a children's centre in every community but obviously it's a very ambitious and long-term project."

Funding for the scheme has been made available through the Government's Sure Start programme.
