Broken down bus causes traffic chaos

The number 63 to Cranleigh via Guildford broke down on the corner just leading round to Waitrose blocking off the road.

Mrs K Giles, 63, had got onto the 3pm bus home to Shamley Green when the passengers were told to get off.

She said: “It went round the corner and there was a jolt and it just cut out.

“I thought at first it had hit one of the cars as the driver shouted, but then nothing happened and we were told to go to the bus station.”

A few buses were waiting at the Carfax unable to turn around and police were diverting cars down East Street.

The broken down bus was moved out of the way just after 3.30pm and the waiting buses were able to get on their way.
