If anyone wishes items to be included in the column I need to have it at by the Sunday two weeks before, which gives me time to type it up and send it in. I hope that is helpful.

The Fundraising efforts last week had the Overseas Lunch raising just over £450 which was fantastic and the Friends of St George’s Coffee Morning £272 also extremely good. Thanks go to everyone involved with both groups who helped and supported them.

Our Cricket team has been doing rather well, as Andy reports: Hurst Green CC V Brede CC. Brede arrived at a sun splattered Hurst Green only nine in number but determined to continue a fine recent run of form. The Green chose to bat and found themselves facing Fiery Freddie Ulmann who in a magnificent early spell beat the outside edge countless times, but found it only twice. The first expertly pouched by E.Avann, the second careering through the slip cordon to the boundary. Final Ulmann figures of 8-4-13-1 were poor reward for his outstanding efforts. The other Brede bowlers may not have been as rapid but did not let their demanding captain down. Two wickets were bagged by E.Avann after he had passed on the keepers gauntlets to Ulmann and one apiece for P.Watts and S.Turner. T.Waters also performed well but with no luck as he finished wicketless. Special mention must go to N.McDonagh and C.Reardon for expert catches, McDonagh’s taken cleverly between his legs, and I.Sutton who almost pulled off a spectacular catch on the square leg boundary. The home team finished on 176-5 with fine efforts from P.Savage 60* and M.Bassett 40.

After a splendid tea Brede Openers E.Avann and A.R.Fryer took their guards, Avann middle and Fryer a confident leg stump, intent on making inroads into the victory target. Barraclough and Bosher both bowled well for Hurst Green but mainly found the middle of the bat as did the other willing bowlers as E.Avann with an opulent 111* and A.R.Fryer 56* rubbed off the total and raced Brede to their second 10 wicket win of the season.

Hurst Green CC 176-5 Brede CC 177-0 Brede CC won by 10 wickets
