The Cranbrook Town Band: were on form and highly entertaining, it was shame that the hall was half full despite me advertising it for weeks before. Now here’s a thought, get out your new 2016 diaries and enter in Thurdsay December 1st Cranbrook Town Band 7.45pm in Brede Village Hall. I say this because so many said afterwards oh I was coming to that but....no excuses now for next year eh!

The Festive Fun Quiz: was as it says fun! Everyone had an excellent time and the food was absolutely fantastic, many thanks to Sue Orchard, Josie Taylor and Vivienne Bird in the kitchen and Sue Lee and & Kate Robinson the Quiz Masters, for organising such a brilliant evening.

St George’s Church Christmas Tree Festival: the Church looked really colourful and beautiful and many people ventured along to have a look. About 60 children with parents turned up on Friday and they had great fun looking for the elves hiding in the trees. Over the weekend many Christmas gifts were bought as were the Christmas cakes and mince pies etc. It all ended with the Christingle Service, the Church was very full of families and during the service after the Christingles were lit, everyone made a circle around the inside of the Church it was nearly doubled in places. A festive tea followed and I would like to thank everyone who brought edibles for the table as I was asked to organise it and relied heavily on the Brede mother’s Union and Church members.

A sad note: unfortunately two souls have passed on, the first is Jim Futton from the Parish who’s funeral has already taken place, he will be missed by family, neighbours & friends. Eric Warne known by many as he has lived in the area most if not all his life and he will be sorely missed by Rose and the family, friends and neighbours. His funeral is to take place; Father Martin has the details.

Well done!: to Matthew Burrows who has run 50k (31 miles) from Pevensey Castle to Rye Castle in aid of Brede and Udimore overseas Group’s four charities. I understand he has raised about £ 1,500 so far, if you are impressed you may like to donate some more money, if so either email [email protected] or phone 07939512423

Posada Mary and Joseph: are travelling around Brede and Broad Oak and have been staying overnight in people’s homes until Christmas Eve. Posada is an old Mexican Tradition, where young people dressed up as Mary and Joseph have asked for a place to stay each night. They would then visit the local Church on Christmas Eve and re-enact the Nativity. Today the modern equivalent is based on that concept and encourages Churches to enable people to give a home to the Nativity figures for the night. It symbolizes making room for Jesus in their hearts, homes and communities.

Brede Youth Council: the Parish Council proposes setting up a Youth Council covering Broad Oak and Brede in the Parish to create a greater awareness of the wishes and views of young people to the Parish Council and the County & District Councillors covering East Sussex & Rother District Council who attend the Parish Council meetings. Equally, this will help young people to have a better understanding of local government and help them feel more part of their local community. It is important that a fair representation of the Youth in the Village is sought; and the Parish Council are looking for anyone in the age group 12- 19 years who live in the Parish to come forward to be involved in the Brede Youth Council.

The young people will be encouraged to organise an election for places on the council later in the year (suggest after 6 months) A representation of two people from the youth Council reporting the views of the young in the community will be expected to attend 4 Brede Parish Council meetings. These people can be changed for each meeting if wanted.

Brede Parish Council commits to meet with representatives of the Youth Council four times a year and where ever practical this will be an agenda item at a full Parish Council meeting.

The Youth Council is to decide how often it meets, but we recommend that monthly meetings be considered.

A Councillor will oversee the meetings, it is proposed that the meetings will be held at the Community Hall on the Recreation Ground at a time agreeable to all.

Friday 11 December: Yoga is held in Udimore Community Hall at 9.30am. Brede Farmers Market is from 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall and there is a good chance you will find that original gift that you have been looking for, so do pop along and see what you can find, following is Brede Short Mat Bowls at 7.30pm.

Saturday 12 December: There is a yoga workshop 9.30am in Udimore Community Hall. Father Christmas will also be arriving in Rye during the day.

Sunday 13 December: The Church Services are as follows: Father Anthony White conducts the Mass service at 9.00 am in St Theresa’s Catholic Church on the old Northiam Road, if you need to contact the Father his number is 01424 773125

At St George’s Church the Sung Eucharist starts at 9.30am Further information on all the weekly services in St George’s can be found in the December /January Parish Magazine. All are very welcome. Monday 14 December: Age Uk East Sussex Brede Community Club. The Club opens today from 10.30am – 3.30pm. News, coffee and ,games, followed by Christmas Dinner. Then Ruth’s Musical Entertainment.

Tuesday 15 December: Pilates at 9.15am in Udimore Community Hall. Followed by another session at 10.15am. The Knitters and Natters heve closed for the Christmas period and will be back in January. The Brede Painting for Pleasure Group are in Brede Village Hall 9.30am

Wednesday 16 December: Pilates are in Udimore Community Hall at 9.15 and 10.15am. The Methodist Church has a Christmas “Open Door” afternoon today at 2.30 and will include a sing-a-long of Christmas songs with seasonal refreshments.

Their Carol Service is on Sunday 20th at 3pm (no Morning service that day) again followed by refreshments.

Thursday 17 December: Pilates 9.30am with another session at 7.30pm both in Udimore Community Hall. Rye & District National Trust will be in Brede Village Hall at 2pm having their Christmas party

Friday 18 December: Yoga is held in Udimore Community Hall at 9.30am. Brede Farmers Market is from 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall, following is the Short Mat Bowls Players at 7.30pm.

New Year’s Eve: the Rainbow Trout have a Disco booked and nibbles and snacks on the bar. Entry this year is free but they are not reserving tables so arrive early if you would like to grab yourself a seat.

Friday 15 & Saturday 16 January: Brede Players present PANTOSTEIN a scarily and silly phantomime in Brede Village Hall at 7.30pm. There is also a matinee at 2.30pm on the Saturday. Tickets are £7 adults &£3 per child Tickets available from Broad Oak Bakery or phone Julie Etches on 01424 882054

Thursday 21 January: Brede and Udimore overseas Group are holding thier Winter Lunch at 12.45pm in Udimore Community Hall. Saturday 6 February: (this was actually written by our 9 year old grandaughter) 1016 Rye Dance Centre are presenting one performance only ‘Super Duper’ at the White Rock Theatre at 3pm Tickets are £10 per person which includes a booking fee, concession and family tickets are also available from the White Rock Theatre Box Office they will also be available on the day at the door. The Young dancers have worked really hard and would appreciate your support at this event so that future generations have the chance to dance on the stage in public giving them confidence maybe to go on further in the future
