Bognor firms could benefit from Lec site's redevelopment

Business owners around Bognor Regis have the chance to benefit from the redevelopment of the town's biggest derelict site.

They have been invited to a drop-in event at the former Lec site on Shripney Road.

The session will take place all afternoon on September 24. It is being held by the site's owner, Sime Darby London, to prepare for the planned regeneration of the former fridge and freezer maker's premises.

Arun District Council is set to decide on October 7, if most of the land should become a Sainsbury's store with 55,000sq ft of selling space.

The other 2.5 acres at the northern end are planned to be used for industrial premises or a business centre.

A spokeswoman for Sime Darby London said the open afternoon would enable firms from the Bognor area to find out the opportunities available to them.

"We are encouraging local businesses who wish to participate in the redevelopment of the former Lec site to register their interest as soon as possible," she said.

"As the previous owners of Lec Refrigeration, Sime Darby were one of the largest employers in Bognor for many years. We continue to be committed to using local trades, suppliers and businesses wherever possible.

"The open event is aimed at any local business or organisation who would like to register their interest either in working with Sime Darby on the regeneration and management of the site or are looking for new premises."

Anyone interested in going along should visit the www.simedarby.co.uk

website.

The former Lec site has a wide range of work, from general maintenance to more specialist environmental projects connected to the proposed regeneration of the site.

This includes investigations into flood risk, ecology and traffic assessments among other matters.

The spokeswoman added the open afternoon was not a recruitment event. These would follow later if, and when, the redevelopment was approved.
