Blooming great success for society's Summer Show...

The event, held at the Sports Pavilion on July 30, presented Flowers, Vegetables, Floral Art, Cookery and Photography with a total 253 entries (an increase of 20 on last year).

Burwash Horticultural Society’s (BHS) chairman Richard Maude-Roxby says the show continued BHS’s Royal theme in support of the Queens 90th birthday, reflected in many of the class entries. “Judges commented on the very high standard and numbers of entries,” he said. “One judge said that the number and quality of the vegetable entries was the best he had seen in any of the shows he had judged all year. They were impressed with the quality and the wide range of colour of the floral entries, particularly the sweet peas and hydrangeas and had a hard job to pick out winning entries. Both the cookery judge and the photography judge also commented on how difficult it was to select the winners from the many entries on show.”

Richard says floral art displays were exquisite, cookery entries were mouthwatering and the photography classes demonstrated the talent of the village photographers. He added: “This was one of our best shows to date. It was also pleasing to see so many new visitors.”

One returning entrant, after a year’s absence due to ill health, Jim Hillier, swept the board with his high quality of exhibits winning four cups, the Banksian Medal and the Master Gardener class.
