Bid to launch coastal wildlife scheme

A scheme to help educate people about wildlife on the coastal towns of Littlehampton and Bognor Regis could be starting this autumn.

The aim of the Arun Marine Ranger Project will be to tell people about the variety of wildlife and to help improve habitats.

A part-time ranger will be employed for a year with the job of leading guided walks, running educational events for children,, giving presentations to local groups and designing a nature trail route for Bognor Regis.

Other jobs will be to install an illustrated wildlife information board along Bognor Regis seafront and raise funds for a similar board for Littlehampton as well getting members of the public involved in practical events such as litter picking and help to manage and survey vegetation on the West Beach Local Nature Reserve.

Arun District Council's parks department which is in charge of the scheme needs to raise another 1,400 before it can start.
