Beachfront plots are up for sale

THE OWNER of beachfront at Herbrand Walk who was denied permission to develop it has decided to sell part of it off.

Steve Hall is now offering for sale 100 lots of 30-metre sections of the beach, which has been the focus of local campaigners opposed to his plans.

He aimed to put up facilities such as temporary beach huts and public toilets in support of families and individuals using the beach to kayak from, but his appeal for permission was ultimately denied by the Planning Inspectorate.

Mr Hall is now keeping 260 metres for his own use and enjoyment but is selling individual plots one metre wide at £500 each and running 30 metres down to the high water mark.

He thinks buyers could purchase one or more plots to give themselves room for parking and equipment.

He said: “This is an ideal opportunity for motorhome owners, campervan owners, fisherman, windsurfers, kite surfers, speed boat owners, sail boat owners, water skiers, diving club members, kayakers or any individual to purchase their own piece of unspoilt East Sussex coastline.

“This will then allow you to be able to just pull off of the road and park up overnight or be able to launch, fish etc from your own private plots, whenever you please.

“At present I allow motorhomes and campervans to park overnight on the shingle during the summer months without charge, I just ask them to keep the beach tidy and leave it how they found it.”

He is inviting anyone interested to contact him on 07816643790 or speak to Daniel Cotterill at Fox and Sons.

Mr Hall told the Observer this week that he had made the decision on Monday to sell off 100 metres as plots because he saw this as a way of indulging his passion for kayaking and allowing others to enjoy the beach at the same time.

He said: “I don’t want to sell the beach. I am going to hang onto it.

“But we’ll get more people down there if other people own the beach.

“At lease I can still do my kayaking – hopefully the council will let me.

“This is a way I can do it. Campervans park down there all the time anyway – they might as well be there on their own little bit. If they buy the land they can do whatever they want on it.”
