Aspirations Week at Sidley School

Pupils of Sidley primary school have been thinking ahead.

They have been involved in Aspiration Week and had the opportunity to take part in different activities to help them consider how they would like their lives to be in the future and how their education is linked to this.

Year Six children ran a fruit caf with the support of local greengrocer Carroll's. The children conducted market research, calculated profit margins and launched an advertising campaign before opening the caf to the school community.

After two days of being open they covered their costs and made a profit of over 100.

Deputy Head James Freeston commented: "The fruit caf has been an enormous success that has generated so many learning opportunities for the children. It has given them a real insight into running a business and provided a perfect opportunity to apply the different skills they have learnt throughout the curriculum. The children have loved the fact that this has been a real life learning experience that could have resulted in a profit or loss."
