Arun wins ‘council of the year’ award

ARUN District Council was hailed as the ‘Council of the Year’ at a national awards ceremony on Friday (May 30).

The council was presented with the accolade by impersonator Rory Bremner during the National Green Deal and Eco Awards, in London.

It was in recognition of Arun’s efforts to implement and promote green schemes across the district, including the innovative £250,000 cladding insulation scheme on the Wick estate.

Arun saw off stiff competition from five other councils across the UK to win the prize.

Councilor Roger Elkins, Arun’s cabinet member for housing, was overjoyed with the award. He said he believed reducing the district’s carbon footprint was important.

“Our investment in this area has enabled many of our more vulnerable residents to enjoy the benefits of the installation of high efficiency condensing boilers, thus reducing carbon and more importantly having a real impact in reducing fuel poverty in the district,” he said.

Other work by Arun include promoting home heating carbon reduction grants for residents.
