Arun good neighbours launch creates 12 jobs

TWELVE jobs have been created in a new initiative hailed as "the most exciting venture for older people and organisations working with them" in Arun this year.

The Arun Neighbourhood Network was launched, fittingly, on UK Older People's Day, bringing together all the groups and organisations in the district who offer services and activities to the elderly.

It's hoped that the closer working will make more neighbourly communities and promote improved health, wellbeing and independence among older people.

Age Concern West Sussex, CVS Arunwide, 4Sight and the Alzheimer's Society have joined forces to set up the network, and pledged to work with other existing organisations to provide more and better services to a greater number of people.

They also want to encourage neighbourhoods to set up new groups, using their skills and experience to support one another.

Community leaders and representatives of the organisations involved the network attended the launch at Bognor Town Hall, and now the network has embarked on a roadshow tour over the next week (see below) to make more people aware of its work.

Diane Henderson, director of Age Concern, said: "This is the most exciting venture for older people and organisations working with them happening this year in Arun. The opportunity for people to share good ideas and plan ways to hear the voices of older people more loudly is a great step forward."
