Another Bognor Prom 10k race success looms

Entries have started to come in for this year's Bognor Prom 10k road race. The biggest sporting spectacular in the town will take place on May 18 for its 14th successful year.

The Bognor Regis Observer is again one of the event's main sponsors and is joined by Peter Cooper Volkswagen.

Organisers at the Bognor Hotham Rotary Club are hoping the turnout on the starting line at West Park will better the 1,300 runners who took part in 2007.

The race will contain all the favourite ingredients of previous years '“ a flat course and a mainly seafront route '“ along with the recently introduced benefit of microchip timing. Race press officer Peter Elliott said: "Once again, runners from all the south of England are being attracted to this unique 10K race."

The closing date for entries is May 6.

Entry forms are available from the Observer offices in Station Road as well as leisure centres and sports shops around the town. The race '“ which forms part of the Sussex 10K road championship '“ will again start from West Park in Aldwick at 10.30am.

Some minor improvements have been made to the course. But it will follow its traditional route along The Esplanade, through the village of Felpham and back along the sea front to finish in West Park.

A rolling programme of road closures will operate for the race. Regular training sessions for race entrants are offered by the Rotary Road Runners at 7pm every Thursday from West Park. Anyone wishing to join should just turn up.

The run for 8-11 year olds will stretch 800m along the seafront close to West Park. For 12 to 14-year-olds, the course will be 1500m on the promenade. The 2 entrance fee includes a medal.
