Angmering students taken on an ‘eye-opening’ tour

STUDENTS from the Angmering School had their thirst for knowledge pipped, after they discover the inner workings of the area’s main water supplier.

The band of 19 teens visited Southern Water’s treatment facility, in Ford, to learn more about the water cycle as part of their participation in the Aqua Innovation – a regional competition run by the company.

The scheme involves 10 secondary schools from across Sussex, Kent and Hampshire competing to design a product, service or campaign to help people use water more efficiently.

Jenny Reynolds, a science teacher at the school, said: “Visiting Southern Water’s works gave our students a first-hand look at what the company does day in, day out – the complex treatment process was quite an eye-opener for them.

“It will really help them come up with some inspirational ideas for their entry for Aqua Innovation.”

Judges from the company will shortlist the best five entries who will then have to pitch their ideas to a Dragon’s Den-style panel, later this month.

The winners will enjoy a fun-filled stay at the Lodge Hill Centre near Pulborough, where they will be taught how to abseil as well as learn about the environment and sustainability issues.

All the schools taking part in the competition are expected to be informed whether or not they have reached the final five, later on this week.
