Alleged thief targets Chichester city jewellers

Sussex Police said the 36-year-old man from Bracklesham Bay was taken into custody in connection with two break-ins in Chichester city centre on Tuesday night.

“At 10.30pm police were called to South Street where a man was seen trying to break into a shop,” said a police spokeswoman.

“A window was smashed at Ebony jewellers.

“A 36-year-old man from Bracklesham Bay was arrested on two counts of burglary and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

“He remains in custody at this stage.”

Chichester Police said on Twitter it had been a ‘busy night’ for officers, with the man allegedly using a fire extinguisher to try smashing a window at the shop.
