Aldwick couple renew vows sixty years on

An Aldwick couple returned to the church where they were married to celebrate the diamond anniversary of the ceremony.

Bill and Pam Luetchford renewed their marriage vows at St John the Baptist Church in Old Malden in Surrey exactly 60 years after the original ceremony.

It was an emotional occasion for Mrs Luetchford. She said: "It was funny standing on the same steps at the altar as we did to get married.

"It only seems like yesterday we were there being married. Those 60 years have gone too quickly."

The latest occasion was led by the Rev Trevor Scott and witnessed by eight friends and relations.

Among them was the couple's middle child, Susan, who had flown from Perth in Australia for the celebrations.

She was joined by her daughter, Erin, for Mr and Mrs Luetchford's anniversary lunch for about 40 people at a local hotel.

Among those present was Mrs Luetchford's Swedish friend Agnetha who had stayed with her at the age of 15. It is the first time in six years the couple '“ who have three children and four grand-daughters '“ have seen Erin and Agnetha.

Mr and Mrs Luetchford grew up in roads close to St John the Baptist Church. They met when Mrs Luetchford's brother began to woo, and later married, her future husband's cousin.

They moved to Aldwick, where they live in Alexander Close, 23 years ago.

Mr Luetchford, 86 this week, worked in advertising for commercial television companies ATV and Central and knew legendary TV figure Lew Grade.
