A26 DIVERSION FEARS

Children returning to a Lewes school this morning after the half-term holiday are having to run the gauntlet of heavy traffic.

The A26 northbound out of the county town has been closed at Malling Hill for road repairs.

Traffic is being diverted through the Malling Estate and past a primary school in Church Lane.

Heavy lorries, vans and cars are pouring through and back on to the A26.

Last week a child was injured while crossing the road while the diversion was in place.

This morning a special crossing patrol was put in place to help children across the road.
