A-LEVELS: Laughter and tears of joy at the Weald

The school was alive with the sound of laughter and youngsters cried tears of joy as the school celebrated another bumper year.

Three students were accepted onto courses at the University of Cambridge in a first for the Weald.

Tom McCann received four A*s and will study natural sciences at Robinson College, Lauren Sullivan, who earned two A*s and two As, will study veterinary science at Fitzwilliam College, and head boy Benedict Welch’s three A*s one A, earned him a place at Jesus College where he will study German.

Remy Shaieb was also celebrating after achieving three A*s and one A, gaining entry to Imperial College to study chemical engineering.

Grace Whyman who was accepted at the University of Leeds to take medicine.

In total, 84 per cent of grades were A* to C, making this year’s results among the school’s best ever.

Head teacher Peter Woodman said: “It has been fantastic to watch students as they get their results and see that their hard work over the last two years has paid off.

“Results across the ability range are again very good with our average grade per entry the highest it has ever been.

“Over one third of all grades achieved were at A* or A. Well done to students, staff and parents!”

Head of sixth form Tom Backshall said “About 85 per cent of our students will go on to university with the vast majority getting in with their first choice.

“Whilst we are thrilled with our headline figures and congratulate the students going to some of the major Russell Group universities, we are just as pleased when students achieve their target grades and gain entry to their course of choice wherever it is across the country.

“This morning was really uplifting to see that the hopes and dreams of so many students had come to fruition.”
