A-LEVELS 2015: Felpham Community College bright sparks get clean sweep of A grades

Among the high-fliers was Alice Hitchcock, who could hardly contain her delight at achieving no fewer than two A* and two A grades.

“I’m in total shock,” the 18-year-old said. “I needed AAB to get into Royal Holloway to study psychology so I did better then I expected. I’m so happy.”

Alice was amongst a group of eight who amazingly managed a clean sweep of A grades.

Abi Cobby, 18, got A grades in history, psychology and sociology and will study psychology at Exeter University. “I’m just really excited to start there now,” she said.

Also planning to study at Exeter is Ben Hughes, after he managed A* grades in both maths, physics and extended project and an A in further maths.

The other students who particularly shone were:

Sam Jones: A* in maths, A further maths, A physics, A* extended project.

Daniel Riley: A* in maths, A physics, distinction* in BTEC IT.

Michael Saunders: A* in maths, A* further maths, A* physics, A Spanish, A extended project.

Abigail Smith: A in textiles, A English language, A* history.

Bradley Tafe: A in chemistry, A maths, A physics, A* extended project.

Also in the lower sixth:

Joseph Kan: A in chemistry, A maths, A further maths, A physics.

Hiren Patel: A in chemistry, A maths, A further maths, A physics.

Carol Rossell: A in biology, A chemistry, A maths, A physics.

The college saw A-level students achieve 97 per cent A* - E grades, with 47 per cent at A*- B, an increase of 7 per cent from last year.

In the lower sixth, there was further improvement this year with students achieving the college’s highest ever pass rate at AS level at 90 per cent A-E and 52 per cent A-C.

Headteacher Mark Anstiss said: “Our excellent results reflect the hard work of our students and staff.

“Our sixth form has grown by over 100 students in the last three years and it is pleasing to see standards improve.

“Further improvements in AS bodes well for next year as well.

“Our university entries remain high at 70 per cent for year 13 students, and other students have secured work placements as well. “The rounded education that our college provides is ensuring students are well placed for their future lives.”
