750 HOMES SCHEME REJECTED

The Woodland Trust - the UK's leading woodland conservation charity - welcomes today's refusal of planning permission for a residential and commercial development at Downlands Farm in Uckfield.

The Woodland Trust and local residents feared that irreplaceable ancient woodland and precious species in East Sussex would be lost if the plans to build 750 residential and 9,600 sq ft of commercial properties in Uckfield got the green light.

The development in the unspoiled rural countryside of Low Weald, would have brought thousands of additional vehicle movements a day, creating increased levels of car and lorry emissions that would have choked the rich ancient habitat within.

Alice Farr, of the Woodland Trust commented: 'This is fantastic news. The planning rejection, although subject to appeal, will mean that this ancient woodland and the species that live within have been spared.'
