400 people dicuss future of town

ONE of the largest meetings ever held in Lewes has expressed grave disquiet over the way the proposed massive Phoenix development is being handled.

More than 400 people at Lewes Town Hall gave overwhelming support to resolutions calling for the planning authority to consider the proposals in the context of the town as a whole rather than in a piecemeal fashion.

They also felt that townsfolk had not been adequately consulted on the Phoenix proposals.

And, they called for a two year moratorium on the scheme so that a more comprehensive vision for the town can be drawn up, climate change can be taken into account, national park status can be examined and new sustainable technologies can be introduced.
