The St Mary’s Preschool 5k event is usually a trail run around Chesworth followed by a family fun day on the Barrack Field.

But this year the event has been transformed into a virtual 5k across the whole of May, one of the organisers Sarah Kirby said.

She added: “This year we thought the nursery needs our help more than ever.

“We decided to run it as a virtual 5k instead.”

Anyone can get involved, buying tickets on the event’s Facebook page and then running their own 5k route.

Sarah, who runs the event with Lisa Jarvis, is encouraging participants to wear fancy dress and to be imaginative with an emphasis on fun.

She said: “They can run, they can walk, they can scoot.

“It’s just a really open event for everybody.

“More than ever we need to be looking after our mental health and wellbeing for ourselves and our family.”

“Exercise and getting outdoors has been proven in being important in doing that.”

The proceeds from the event, which is in its third year, all go to fund the preschool.

Sarah added: “It’s a lovely charity, community preschool.”

All participants will get a Lockdown 2020 commemorative medal.

Tickets cost £10 if booked before midnight tonight (April 30) or are available for £12 throughout May.
