Arundel school’s delight with early gift

Christmas may not be for another few weeks or so. But for one school in Arundel it has come early after it received a cheque for more than £2,300.

Teachers, pupils and parents at the Arundel CE Primary School joined together to celebrate the financial windfall provided to the Jarvis Road institution by staff from the Hilton Avisford Park Hotel, in Walberton.

The cash was all a culmination of a determined fund-raising bid by pupils from the school during the summer and a donation from the Hilton’s Community Foundation scheme.

The money will go towards funding and maintaining the school’s now-completed amphitheatre on its playing field.

It will also help support the primary’s Friends of Arundel CE Primary School (FACES) group.

The school’s head teacher, Andrew Simpson said: “A huge thanks go out to all the staff at the Avisford Park Hotel and the Hilton Foundation.”

Over the summer, dozens of children from the school took part in a sponsored one-mile walk around the Hilton’s grounds.

The event was part of the international hotel chain’s Around the World in a Day charity bonanza which saw thousands of people from Hiltons across the globe attempting to walk a combined total of the Earth’s circumference – twice.

Philippa Redwood, of Hilton Avisford Park Hotel, said: “This is the second year we have supported the Arundel CE Primary School and we’re delighted with the reaction from pupils and staff.

“They will be using the money to help improve and maintain the school’s high teaching facilities, in particular its new amphitheatre. We’re proud to be supporting local causes.”
