Horsham store hailed in Post Office ‘Local Hero’ awards

Londis Caterways and Post Office was a finalist in the Local Hero category of the Post Office’s ‘We’re Stronger Together’ south east regional awards.

The awards recognise the efforts made by postmasters across the region to keep branches open during the Covid-19 pandemic and serving their local community.

Caterways store teamed up with The Coot pub, At Home estate agents and local volunteers to make free deliveries to local vulnerable people.

Amish Shingadia, owner and post master, was praised by the Post Office for his ‘great work.’

Post Office area manager Steve Leddy, said: “Caterways Post Office was nominated for the Local Hero award for their efforts to serve those most in need.

“They combined forces with a local letting agent and pub to provide free deliveries to the most vulnerable in society while mobilising a group of volunteers to check up on the most isolated in the area.

“This help has been publicised widely in the local area through social media and the team at Caterways deserve high praise for helping their community.”

Post Office chief executive Nick Read said: “I have heard many inspiring stories of postmasters going the extra mile and I have welcomed the opportunity to hear first-hand how postmasters in the south east have fared during the pandemic including Caterways.

“All retailers have been affected and Post Office was no exception. The next few weeks and months will be a critical period as we try and return to a sense of normality.

“Post Office branches have a vital role to play in supporting their customers and communities, as well as helping small businesses and independent retailers get back on their feet.”

Last year Londis Caterways and Post Office was crowned best Post Office in the UK.
