She has arranged for a batch of ten books to be delivered to the school library, ready for when the pupils return on Monday, March 8.

The donation was made by the Morrisons Foundation, in partnership with the National Literacy Trust, which found in a recent study that reading had helped children feel better during lockdown and inspired them to dream about the future.

The book bundle includes The Extraordinary Life of Amelia Earhart by Sheila Kanani and The Racehorse Who Learned to Dance by Clare Balding.

Jonathan Douglas, trust chief executive, said: “Books have the power to change children’s life stories and the books provided through this fantastic initiative will also provide inspiration and comfort during this continued time of uncertainty.”
