Store manager Elaine Vanson said it was a particularly significant day for them, as CC has had a presence in the town since the company began in 1973.

The store, then known as Country Casuals, was in West Street and Elaine had a job as one of their assistants.

Customers who dropped by on Tuesday were treated to complimentary drinks, birthday cake, and offers of style clinics to help them to get into a celebratory mood for summer.

Elaine told the County Times that she puts the Horsham store’s longevity down to the loyalty of their regular customers, some of whom have been shopping with them since they first opened.

CC has more than 225 stores, including concessions and outlets within department stores. The company was launched as part of the Coats Patons Group, and soon had a presence in London’s Oxford Street, and in Denmark, Germany and Holland.

In the late 80s the company was suffering badly from the recession, but a management buyout in 1989 saw the brand revitalised.

In 1998, the company was acquired by the Austin Reed Group and continued to expand, rebranding as CC in 2005.

A statement from the company said: “CC has been fronted by Hollywood superstar Jane Seymour for 11 seasons and this season she showcases how to wear CC for summer in an epic campaign.

“Holiday essentials, nouveau nautical, safari luxe, pretty pastels and delicious blues provide a glamorous and irresistible look for the season.

“Nouveau nautical resonates a Rivera vibe, with chic Breton tops and crisp linen tailoring.

“Prints echo this look with punchy spots and statement stripes whilst graphic florals in the nautical palette give the look a modern edge.”
