Bexhill Hanoverian Study Group

BEXHILL was once home to a military encampment of the King's German Legion. George the Third of Britain was also Elector of Hanover.

After the defeat of Hanover by Napoleon, the King was joined in Britain by many of his army.

Many of The King's German Legion, as it became known, were stationed in Southern England, including Bexhill, to help in the defence any attack by the French.

On Wednesday, February 18, at 7.30pm in St Peter's Community Centre, Old Town, members of the public who are interested in local history are invited to join the Bexhill Hanoverian Study Group to hear what promises to be a very interesting talk entitled Leaping The Ditch: Defending the South Coast against Napoleon.

This talk will be presented by historian Richard Callaghan, and we have no doubt that Mr Callaghan will embrace the opportunity to tell of the activities of the Kings German Legion during this crucial period in Bexhill's history.

The admission price for the meeting is just 1. Come along and speak with members of the group. We are sure you would then want to return for future meetings, as a member.
